Mental health is often referred to as a state whereby there are no underlying mental issues. It also includes the process whereby someone on a daily treatment of a particular mental issue like depression, anxiety etc.

Definition Of Mental Health.

Mental health is the behavioural, cognitive, and emotional well-being of a person or persons. It is the generic name for our daily way of life – the way we handle heartbreaks, exhilaration, our thoughts, manner of approach and every other habit we exude.

Mental health affects our daily activities, hence we must always check if we are still in a state of balance. Unchecked mental issues can affect relationships like friendship, family, business, etc.

It is very fundamental to look after mental health. Looking after mental health can preserve one's ability to enjoy life, see things on good clear terms and live a relaxing life. These can be achieved by drawing a balance between environmental output (like pressure), responsibility and cooling of one's inner state of mind, that is, making sure one is in a healthy state of mind to take and handle things that may trigger mental issues.

Below are a few mental issues.

1. Anger.

Everyone feels angry (to different levels) – it is part of being a human. We all feel angry when certain things occur like frustration, invalidation, heartbreak, deception etc.

Anger when managed is ok but the danger comes when such anger leads to the destruction of the relationships, and, or hurt of oneself or another person. This is when we start talking about mental issues.

People express their anger in different ways. Below are two unhealthy ways of expressing anger

A. Inward assault (non violent): this is when a person is offended or angry and says all manner of ill words to the offender. Such people do not engage in physical confrontation but go-ahead to fill their thoughts and minds with wrong words.

They end up sulking, silently plotting evil, and ignoring the offender.

They can also damage their image by dwelling on their inability to maintain relationships, get validation etc.

B. Outward assault: when angry, outward assault include physical threat, killing, verbal abuse, destruction of properties, harming of people etc.

2. Bipolar Disorder.

Bipolar disorder is a mental health issue that majorly affects one's temperament.

A bipolar disorder person mostly experiences maniac (feeling high), depression (feeling down), and some psychotic symptoms when feeling either high or down.

3. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

A borderline personality disorder is also referred to as emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD).

People with borderline disorder have difficulty with how they feel and think about themselves and others. They often have challenges in their daily life because of how they see people and how or what they think about them.

Indications of borderline disorder

When you find it very hard to find and keep healthy relationships.
2. When you lose sense of purpose.
3.  When you feel very happy and suddenly feel very unhappy and in some cases, get depressed.
4. When you act impulsively to do things that harm you like stabbing yourself, taking drugs, starving etc

4. Depression

Depression is a low mood that lasts for a long time, and affects your everyday life.

In its reasonable form, depression can mean just being a little out of normal enthusiasm (low spirit). In this case, it doesn't stop you from leading your normal life but makes everything harder to do and seem less worthwhile. At its most severe, depression can be life-threatening because it can make you feel suicidal.
